Bboy Mixtapes – DJ Timber

It’s back to Barcelona with one of the top names in the game, DJ Timber and his box of Bboy Mixtapes, beginning with the preview for “Mind Power” and followed closely by the “Roots” mixtape and many more:

DJ Timber (@timbertron) of Mighty Zulu Kingz/Horsepower/Bad Taste Crew is a dope turntablist and a master selector of Funk, Soul, Salsa, and far beyond.

Some background on DJ Timber from his Soundcloud:

Suede Chief

B-boy and DJ since the late 90s, Timber has DJed in over 25 countries & at most of the top B-Boy events worldwide (incl. Mighty 4 (USA), R16 (Korea), UK Champs (UK), IBE (Holland), United Styles (USA), Radikal Forze Jam (Singapore) etc). Whilst tracing the roots of B-Boyin Timber fell in love with Salsa, that heavy 1970’s Nuyorican street sound with blasting percussion fitted his profile just right, a passion which has made him one of the top salsa DJs in Europe, boasting a heavyweight vinyl collection of not only Soul, Funk, Hip Hop & rock solid B-Boy breaks, but also the toughest Salsa sounds! Timber is a long standing Resident DJ at Barcelona’s premier Soul & Funk club, Marula Cafe

Timber runs bboytimber.blogspot.com a bi-lingual (English / Spanish) B-Boy Culture blog full of mixtapes, articles, essays & interviews strictly about the culture of B-Boyin with some of the biggest names on the scene & as well as his Salsa Dura blog timbertron.blogspot.com

Timber is also known for his teaching & his unique B-Boy workshops offer a truly different perspective on the dance which have been opening up the eyes of many B-Boys to not only the history of our music, but also to the application of music theory on their B-Boyin’

Timber represents Bad Taste Crew, Mighty Zulu Kingz, Horsepower & Actitud Salvaje

Among all of the dope mixes on DJ Timber’s Soundcloud are these Bboy Mixtapes, and you should definitely peep his wealth of Latin Funk and Soul selections, which are undeniably part of the foundation for much of what we’d call “Bboy Music.”

For example, check out DJ Timber’s Salsa Mixtape “Diggin in New York” and make sure to peep his Salsa blog as well:

Also, dig these wise words from DJ Timber’s Bboy blogspot:

‘Real B-boy music’ does not exist, no bands have ever made albums of ‘b-boy music’, we dance on the break which is cut up by the DJ, this is the original & most primitive form of ‘beat making’ or ‘producing’ in Hip Hop. So in effect, when you cut up breaks, you become a ‘producer’. You use other people’s music to create something that did not previously exist, a good DJ will take you on a journey / tell you a story, music is the medium but the journey comes through the manipulation of the emotions of the audience.

Make sure to support the homie DJ Timber and Like him on Facebook to keep an ear out for future funk releases!
