Original Breaks

Love to the world! Our first selection this week comes from WDRE & Freqnik. We spotted this on Soundcloud and had to share. The very fresh yet funky track below is just one of many ill hip-hop beats, smash-ups and remixes you can find on their Soundcloud page.

Suede Chief

Favela Bboy Funk – Freqnik & WDRE

Some interesting info on Freqnik & WDRE’s production process and background can be found in this interview, along with links to some more dope tracks . . .

It all started with a shared passion for skateboarding and a musical response to New York City rain. Twenty years later, Freqnik and WDRE have released many of SoundCloud’s grooviest and craftiest mashups.

Our next original selection this week comes from South Florida’s FUSIK, a DOPE funk/bboy band that’s well-known in the bboy community. We’ve seen these boys at many a battle all over Florida, and their sound is unforgettable.

Cypher Black – FUSIK (Florida, USA)

Some background on FUSIK from their website http://www.fusikmusik.com:

Fusik (few-sick) Is a funky five piece from Ft. Lauderdale Florida.  But what’s FUSIK’s sound you say?  Throw Jimmi Hendrix, Santana, and James Brown in a blender and that’s what you would get (FUSIK a true FUSION of MUSIC).  Ask anyone who has been to their live shows and they will tell you Fusik can keep the party moving with their high energy beats, funky rhythms, and smoking solos. Not to mention the Bboys coming through breaking it down at every show.  If you are lucky you can also see some guest dance appearances by some of Fusik’s own Band members!

The band consist of Lead guitar and soulful vocalist Anton “Sanchez” Rivera, a New Yorican from the Bronx that add the blues and rock seasoning.  Charles “Chip “Gardener Fusik’s Organ/Keyboard player whose solo lines and funky rhythms add much taste to Fusik’s sound.   Mack Moore, Bass/Rhythm Guitar keeping the groove locked making it impossible to stay still. Danny “Quinto” Naval, the energetic and lively percussionist who adds the Latin flavor to the group. And Daniel “Felix” Garcia on Drums, holding down the beats and keeping it all together with his solid pocket groove.

Fusik has appeared at many local hot spots including Transit Lounge (Miami), Culture Room (Ft Lauderdale), Dada (Delray Beach), The Social (Orlando), and many more.  Outside of Florida Fusik has visited various cities in the US and has had many European visits including France, Spain, and Italy to name a few. The boys have also shared the stage with the likes of:  KRS One, N.E.R.D, Blues Traveler, Carl Denson, Shamarr Allen and many more.

Don’t forget to check out Fusik newest album HOT SKILLET released June 2010 which is available on ITunes, Amazon, and at every live show!

Video Selection

Flipside 180 vs. Soul Rockerz @ For Your Soul 4 (Orlando, FL)

This week’s video selection comes from a battle that went down in Orlando in July 2011 called “For Your Soul 4.” For Your Soul has been an annual battle put on by one of FLorida’s DOPEST bboys and most positive figures in the bboy community, LITO. Big shout-out to LITO and Soul Rockerz crew, and as LITO would likely say himself:

Peace & God bless
