“Rock It” by Lipps Inc is one of the DOPEst tracks to emerge from the Disco era, coming from the group infamous for the well-known party track “Funkytown”. It’s also a fine example of a track that couldn’t make it too far in the mainstream, but gained later-day recognition in the Bboy community, because the breaks just won’t quit:

Released nationally in late 1979, “Rock It” failed to catch on; the group’s debut album, Mouth Music, was released in early 1980 and when “Funkytown” was pulled as a second single, it was an instant hit, climbing to number one just a couple months later and spending four weeks on top. In the wake of its success, “Rock It” was re-released, but flopped again.
