Weekly Classics
This week’s first classic splashed on our Facebook page and just had to be highlighted again.
California Dreamin – Baby Huey
Some background from Wikipedia:
A native of Richmond, Indiana, James Ramey moved to Chicago, Illinois at the age of nineteen, and worked with several local bands as a singer. One while he was still in high school was called the Vets. Due to a glandular disorder, Ramey was a large man, weighing about 350 pounds (160 kg). His size contributed to his stage presence, but also to health problems. Nevertheless, he made light of his condition, adopting the stage name “Baby Huey” after Paramount Pictures’ giant duckling cartoon character of the same name.
Baby Huey played a fundamental part in the development of Hip-hop, and here’s a track that served as the music for Ghostface Killah’s “Buck 50.”
Hard Times – Baby Huey
And now a most Classic joint from the Jackson Sisters:
Miracles – Jackson Sisters
And finally, some Disco funk for the dancehall:
Say It Again – Harvey Mason
