Tokyo Saucer, a #dope quartet who insists they’re from Earth (but these breaks are other-worldly) knocks out the Bboy Sound with funky rhythms and plucks. Here’s a Battle Beat to get started:
Self-described on the Tokyo Saucer website as “Playing tribute to the raw funk grooves of decades past and present,” this “live funk, soul-jazz, rock groove instrumental quartet” absolutely kills the Funk.
And this Battle jammy really shows the potential for reception and recognition within Jazz, Soul, Funk and other genres of the Bboy Music universe.
It can be seen as a paradox that while clearly, the Hip-hop movement preceded large-scale Bboy Culture, the soundtrack to Bboy Culture is now stacked with music from long before the birth of Hip-hop or even pre-Hip-hop, as evident in the inspiration behind this Tokyo Saucer smash.
So did the inspiration for the Bboy movement spring from Hip-hop or just Funky sounds in general?
And most importantly, should Bboy Music/Culture now be seen as a genre-crossing, energy-expanding, time-traveling force pervading all the music we hear? The thought of the Tokyo Saucer floating from city to city, blessing the populace with Bboy Sounds “War of the Worlds” style definitely makes us believe it!
Anyway…
