Magic Mike Cuts the Record & Dynamic Duo – DJ Magic Mike & The Royal Posse, MC Madness

DJ Magic Mike is known to Hip-hop heads, Bboys and Bgirls, EDM freaks, and especially Miami Bass junkies, as well as music fans around the world. On the scene since the mid 1980s, Magic Mike is still constantly killing it, often in my former hometown of Orlando, Florida.

Turntablism has always been off the chain, and over they years, there have been some very serious Bboy Sounds from this DJ.

If you don’t know yet, pay attention.

We got to personally jam to the sounds of DJ Magic Mike back in the Orlando days, mostly on Sunday nights at House of Blues, where SIN (service industry night) was one of my favorite stops of the week.

Much love to our bartender, Jasmine, who always kept the night afloat, and to the many Bboys and Bgirls from Orlando and surrounding areas that would open up wide ciphers on House of Blues’ massive dance floor and set off the whole party.

Bboys and Bgirls from Backyard Funk Crew, Soul Rockerz Crew, Ground Zero Crew, plus plenty of Old School cats that just came to get down usually formed the Bboy population, plus thousands of service industry workers, tourists, and House heads from around the world on any given Sunday.

DJ Magic Mike hasn’t slowed down either, and is pumping out fresh jams, plus still killing the wheels of steel at every turn.

As a chart-topper since 1988, DJ Magic Mike is far from a new comer, but one who has always managed to remain a bit more underground. The Orlando, Florida native is even noted as “The Best Platinum Artist You Never Heard Of” in Vibe magazine. Beginning in 1989, the initial goal of the DJ and his comrades was to simply sell twenty to thirty thousand copies in hopes of seeing their names on the Billboard charts. So the crew released DJ MAGIC MIKE AND THE ROYAL POSSE. “Although we knew we were hot, we never really took time out to count the rising sales. However, one day one of our employees brought it to our attention after counting the numbers that the album had sold over 500,000 copies. Completely shocked us. I was having fun anyway, and it didn’t really hit me until the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) came down and present us with gold plaques at an Orlando concert, that’s when everything became real,” explains Mike. Selling over a million copies, the album skyrocketed to Platinum status.
