We’re very sad to hear this morning that Chris Kelly aka Mac Daddy passed away yesterday in Atlanta. Kriss Kross was a phenomenon in early 1990s Hip-hop with the singles “Jump” and “Warm It Up”, among other hits from their first album “Totally Krossed Out.” These two then-pint-sized MCs were taking down the age barriers with a relatively positive message and their trademark style of wearing their clothes backwards.
“Jump” is a massive Hip-hop track, produced by So So Def icon Jermaine Dupri, that I’ve personally dropped many times on the Bboy cipher, and even though it’s been heard countless times, “Jump” always gets things going in the tradition of the 1990s Hip-hop sound.
They also did this extra-Ill remix with Reggae legend Supercat, ladda mercy:
Our condolences to Chris Kelly family and friends, and to the Hip-hop community and the music community at large, who has lost another talented artist far too young.
While it’s reported that fans are paying tribute by wearing their clothes backwards, we’ll be bumping the Kriss Kross sound in tribute.
Rest in Peace to the Mac Daddy!
