Saturday, June 15, 2013, 9pm-3am @ PAX (Performing Arts Exchange), 337 SW 8th Street, Miami, FL 33130

Fundraiser To Support The Local Chapter’s work in the Community Featuring Miami’s most Respected Living Legends and the Best Contemporary Practioners Representing DJ’ing, MC’ing, Breaking and Graffiti Art along with Food, Drinks, Family, Community and Fun
Authentic Hip Hop Culture in its purest form, its essence…in the presence of one of its creators and those who have carried on the mission of preserving the culture here in Miami and around the world

June, 15, 2013 ~ Miami, FL — The Miami Chapter of the Universal Zulu Nation (UZN) will be celebrating 20 years of preserving, promoting and presenting authentic Hip Hop Culture with a celebration headlined by the organizations founder and the Godfather of Hip Hop Culture, Afrika Bambaataa, at one of Miami’s premier live performance and cinema arts centers, PAX (Performing Arts Exchange). The Event will feature all the Core Elements of Hip Hop Culture: DJ’ing, MC’ing, Breaking and Graffiti Art with Exhibitions and Demonstrations.  Alongside the Worldwide Musical Icon and Cultural Pioneer will be Miami’s most respected living legends and the best contemporary Practioners  who will be present and representing their contributions to the Culture through the Art displayed, the music being played, the performances to take place  and the dance moves that will be made and demonstrated. PAX is the perfect venue for this historical music and cultural celebratory fundraiser as it has hosted some of the most important events of this kind in Miami featuring the best local as well as visiting International Artists including Grammy and Latin Grammy nominated and winning musicians and bands.
The Universal Zulu Nation was founded 40 years ago on November 12, 1973 in NYC by the visionary, Afrika Bambaataa, as a way to help Youth on the streets of New York. Its purpose is to peacefully unite, educate and empower Urban Youth as well as people of all backgrounds from around the world – as Bam would say, “We are all of One Race, the Human Race.”  Bambaataa holds the title of the Godfather of this Global Cultural Movement and the UZN is now a worldwide multicultural organization with chapters in a great number of cities throughout the world. Bambaataa, who is not only a great visionary and extremely successful musical talent, he was recently appointed to a three-year term as a visiting scholar at Cornell University and there is an active Petition to have him nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. Bambaataa is also celebrating the 30th Anniversary of “Planet Rock”, a song that helped change the foundation of Hip Hop and dance music. It is credited with developing the electro style and helped pave the way for other genres such as House, Bass, Trance, Techno and EDM. It is one of the most sampled songs in music history, having been remixed and used by the likes of Paul Oakenfold, Westbam, George Acosta, LL Cool J, Mariah Carey and countless others. Rap/Metal band Rage Against The Machine also famously covered Bam’s track ‘Renegades of Funk’.
This historical event commemorating the founding of the first UZN Chapter in Florida, which was based in Miami and established in 1993 by Omar Iz, is extremely significant in that it recognizes the work that was carried on by the furthering of the International organization’s extremely positive mission of uplifting its members and their surrounding communities with the powerful and positive aspects of Hip Hop Culture.  Its musical expression is utilized as an organizing tool to instill these qualities in those that choose to see the vision, its truth and benefit to themselves and society. The event will also be an opportunity to raise funds and awareness of the current UZN-Miami Chapter and all its work throughout the past two decades.   Several years ago, as part of that work, Omar was an On-Air Host at Miami’s 88.9 FM, WDNA with Arturo Gomez aka The Rhythm Rocker, also a co-founding member of the UZN Miami Chapter, on the well-known Saturday Night Funkbox.
We plan to share the UZN’s history, mission and vision highlighting its accomplishments and ongoing work, both locally and worldwide, through various mediums and presentations to include Exhibited Art and Live Painting, Projected Photo Slideshows and Videos as well as DJ, MC and Dance Performances by Breakers, Rockers and Poppers. Present will also be Vendors and Non-Profit Organizations tabling and we will also have a Commemoration Ceremony that will honor Bambaataa, the Miami Chapter Founder, the organization’s current leadership and a local Non-Profit Organization by presenting them with Plaques as a token of respect and appreciation for the work, passion and dedication to the betterment of the extended South Florida community.  So join us for a highly enjoyable evening filled with pure entertainment sharing in the values Bam based Hip Hop on: Peace, Unity, Love, and having Fun!
