“Beats to the Rhyme” is one of the DOPEst Bboy jams from the Funky brothers Run DMC, and is an undeniable highlight of early Hip-Hop DJ culture:
Producing the track for the album Tougher Than Leather, Run DMC (@officialrundmc & @revrunwisdom) and Davey D. took elements from nearly a dozen tracks to put together “Beats to the Rhyme”.
Included in the list are Hip-Hop classics like Dana Dane’s “Cinderfella Dana Dane” and Kurtis Blow’s “AJ Scratch”, plus Run DMC’s own “Sucker M.C.s”.
And along with countless Hip-Hop jams from across the lifespan of the movement, the producers grabbed some of the golden samples from the Jazzy legend Bob James’ 1974 masterpiece of Funk “Nautilus”:
Numerous drops and breaks account for nearly a dozen other tracks finding themselves scratched and blended into the track, including the James Brown smash “Funky Drummer”:
