He’s the Groove – Snuky Tate

He’s the groove. He’s the man. He’s the pope in the Vatican. That’s all you need to know, compliments of Snuky Tate.

Snuky Tate traversed several genres from Punk to Dance to Reggae, and “He’s the Groove” is definitely one of his dopest contributions, and we’re quite lucky to have this video edit from Krejzifrizbi.

Some background from Snuky Tate’s Facebook page:

Suede Chief

Lionel White (1948-1998) — born in Wilmington, DE and studied painting at University of Delaware. He moved to San Francisco in the early 70’s where he became the stage persona, Snuky Tate. He performed at the Mabuhay Gardens and other punk venues — often before, during, and after other bands’ sets, sometimes unbeknownst to the promoter! In 1979, he released two 7″s on his own Blackmouth Music, Who Cares? and He’s The Groove (He’s The Pope). The latter was re-issued as a 12″ dance single on various labels including Island Records.

Snuky moved to New York in the early 80’s and was a regular at CBGB’s and the downtown gallery scene. In 1982, he released the Babylon Under Pressure LP on Chris Stein’s Animal Records.

“He’s the Groove” plays a part in this next feature, an extremely dope and thoughtful “People Are Trying to Sleep” mix from William Dunn of Tramp Music (@willtramp) that ranges from Punk, Rock, and Rave to downhome Bboy Funk and some other surprises as well (Free Download):
