Night of the Wolf – Esperanto, Al Foster Band, Trevor & Lisa

A fundamental joint for the cipher as well as the battleground, “Night of the Wolf” aka “Tema del Lupo” has some reworks that are as dope as the original, starting with Esperanto’s take:

From the Freestyle Records (@freestylerecrds) website, a note on this release, which was just the B-side to a 7″ single they dropped:

Over on the flip, Esperanto serve up a heavy version of the Al Foster Band’s “Night Of The Wolf” – a rare 45 if ever there was! Toughening up the drums and arrangements, the band deliver a respectful update to this classic tune.

Always loved the B-side tracks!

And of course, dig the original Al Foster Band version:

A track this dope must have an interesting story right (and cover art, with a kitten)? Absolutely!

(Big up to CollectorsFrenzy for digging up that vinyl slip!)

From Soulstaxx:

Al Foster Band was a pseudonym for Italian writers and musicians Ivano Alberto Fossati and Oscar Prudente. Their only track as Al Foster Band first appeared on their 1973 LP “Poco Prima Dell’Aurora” on the Italian label Cetra/Numero Uno. The original title was “Tema Del Lupo” (translated as “Theme Of The Wolf”). It was also released on the same label as a 7″ in 1974. When Roulette picked it up they chose the American sounding artist name Al Foster Band and changed the track name to “Night Of The Wolf”. Nicked that off Discogs! ‘Deep Funk’ memories of this fierce near four minute gem.

And as a special treat, dig this version by Paris’ Trevor & Lisa on Favorite Recordings (@favorite_rec):
