Funky Highlife (SPGroove Edit) – C.K. Mann

Get ready for a serious bout of Afrobeat Bboy Funk by the legendary C.K. Mann, brought to us by Sans Groove of Italy: “Funky Highlife”

Big up to Sans Groove (@sanspapiergroov), stylized as Sans Gr☮☮ve, for this and many other extra-funky edits he’s brought to us by way of his Soundcloud.

It’s an open challenge to all Bboys, Bgirls, and Hip-Hoppers to put on this joint and try and not let this beat move your feet.

C.K Mann Funky HighlifeThe original track, by C.K. Mann, has quite a backstory that you can check out at MrBongo.com (@therealmrbongo), but here’s a bit to set it off:

C.K. Mann made his name as a virtuous guitar player in Ghana when he played with Moses Kweku Oppong in the Kakaikus Guitar Band in the early 60s. He then became the leader of the band Ocean’s Strings until 1966… [Mann] was known for blending African authentic music with European influences. He was inspired by Latin American music and created a style all of his own. He became the ‘king of highlife‘ in Ghana in 1971…

Another one of Sans Groove’s jammers that we couldn’t resist, the SPGroove edit of “Pass the Hatchet” by Roger and The Gypsies:

…and this take on James Brown’s “I’m Shook” that will warm your cold heart:
