“Battened Ships”, by the Disco Homeboys known in the mainstream (or whatever) for “Native New Yorker” is another seriously ILL track from back in the Disco days. This one is a funky jam that features plucky and funky guitar pluck plus a drumline that was meant for Bboy greatness.
Plenty of breaks from beginning to end, definitely fit for the boombox:

First formed as the Lopez Sisters (Carmen, Lillian, and Louise) in 1968, Carmen dropped out and Tony Reynolds (a Manilla native) joined to form Odyssey. After performances in New York clubs, they hit it big in 1977 with the soft disco cuts “Native New Yorker” and “Easy Come, Easy Go.” Their music had a subtle Caribbean feel, and while their U.S. hits soon dried up, they had a few more hits in the U.K. before the group fell apart.
