You’ve probably heard Will Stylz on the mic, and if you’re very lucky, you may have even heard him get down on the wheels of steel. Will has served as host, MC, and/or DJ for some of the dopest battles all over Florida for the past decade, while also serving as a leader of Catalyst Hip-Hop.

His iconic voice and talent for commanding the crowd and running events has kept him in demand for historic jams like Temple Rock, iPhlow, B-Miami, Freestyle Session, Breakapalooza, and countless in-house jams at Catalyst Hip-Hop in Miami and West Palm Beach.
Will was also an early supporter of Bboysounds, and it’s our honor to interview the man himself.
Bboysounds: Who is Will Stylz?
Will Stylz: I’m a hip hop purist, a fan and supporter of the culture, Man of God.
When and why did you start breaking?
I started breaking low key after watching this music video by The B.U.M.S. “Elevation”. There’s a small clip of crazy legs throwing down I had recorded and dissected that clip lol. And years later I met my boy Angelo who was from the culture and schooled me on the knowledge.
When did you start MCing for jams?
First jam that I had Mc was off the grid, back in 2013. Shoutout to Marvileous Marv for throwing that jam and believing in me.
Are there any jam MCs or hosts that influence you, that you have tried to follow?
Yes! Basically low key learned from Zaryn aka Z rawk and Mex one, I saw how organized and efficient the way they facilitate events. They weren’t very animated like a lot of other hosts are, but definitely the most organized and that’s what I go for.

Somebody just got hired to MC their first jam. They contact you for advice. What would you tell them?
I would tell them to look at the schedule of events, how the preliminaries will go, the battles rounds, number of rounds and definitely have a clipboard lol. Knowing the dancers and where they are from makes it easier.
Also, what would you tell them not to do?
Don’t shout too much, don’t go over board with jokes you are a host not a stand up comedian lol.

Will Stylz is widely known as a DJ as well. When did you start Djing?
I started djing in 94′ my freshman year in high school, my friend and underground Mc Mr SoS, had taught me.
What song would definitely make it into your set list today?
Sault “I just wanna dance”
Which artist or music group has influenced you the most?
A Tribe Called Quest and Rakim.
What’s the best time you ever had hosting?
Between the breaks back in 2015 , shout-out to Bboy Fantum for putting that together.

What advice would you give to the bboys and bgirls of the world?
Always remember why you do this and always be willing learn not just moves but the history.
Massive thanks to Will Stylz for taking the time on this interview, and make sure to follow him on Instagram @willstylz79__, where you can also contact him for upcoming events.
